چکیده

Corrections to the zeroth-approximation cross-section formula for antineutrino capture on protons at nuclear reactors are evaluated. They include recoil corrections 1 I M of three kinds. The true recoil correction to the cross section is negligible. The weak-magnetism-axial-vector interference is sizable, decreasing the cross section by -2% for 5-MeV positrons. One also has to include the recoil-neutron energy in relating the positron and antineutrino energies in order to evaluate the antineutrino flux. That effect decreases the positron yield by as much as 6% for 5-MeV positrons. The radiative corrections of order a have been also evaluated; they increase the cross section by -1.5% near threshold and by -0.7% at 5 MeV. Formulas and a table of numerical values of all corrections are presented.

Search for electron antineutrino interactions with the Borexino Counting Test Facility at Gran Sasso

Electron antineutrino interactions above the inverse beta decay energy of protons (Eν̄e >1.8 MeV) were looked for with the Borexino Counting Test Facility (CTF). One candidate event survived after rejection of background, which included muon-induced neutrons and random coincidences. An upper limit on the solar ν̄e flux, assumed having the B solar neutrino energy spectrum, of 1.1×10 cm s (90% C.L....

Supernova SN1987A Bound on Neutrino Spectra for R-Process Nucleosynthesis

The neutrino driven wind during a core collapse supernova is an attractive site for r-process nucleosynthesis. The electron fraction Ye in the wind depends on observable neutrino energies and luminosities. The mean antineutrino energy is limited by supernova SN1987A data while lepton number conservation constrains the ratio of antineutrino to neutrino luminosities. If Ye, in the wind, is to be ...

In 2001, Bernstein, West and Gupta [i] described a possible campaign to monitor nuclear fission reactions over large distances using arrays of Super-Kamiokande (SuperK) type water Cherenkov detectors, modified to include neutron-capture elements such as gadolinium. This modification would allow sensitivity to reactor and other low energy antineutrinos through the inverse beta decay interaction....

Asymmetrical neutrino induced decay of nucleons

ProblemThe operation of neutrino detectors shows that nuclide decay rates can be affected by loading of neutrino species. However the underlying principles of this are poorly understood. PurposeThis paper develops a conceptual solution for the neutrino-species interactions with single nucleon decay processes. ApproachThe starting point was the nonlocal hidden-variable (NLHV) solution provided b...

Directional antineutrino detection.

We propose the first event-by-event directional antineutrino detector using inverse beta decay (IBD) interactions on hydrogen, with potential applications including monitoring for nuclear nonproliferation, spatially mapping geoneutrinos, characterizing the diffuse supernova neutrino background and searching for new physics in the neutrino sector. The detector consists of adjacent and separated ...
